Thanks for the comment, Sandy. I think these situations are more common in the "fitness" world than anyone talks about. Thanks for adding your voice to the topic!

Adam, I think you re right on. I am a avid 3:15 marathoner, weight lift, Bikram Yoga, kick boxing, step aerobics, plyometrics workout frk!ea I don't eat wheat, gluten, sugar or dairy. I do all organic and lean meat such as buffalo or grass fed organic beef. I also have been struggeling with weight problems due to adrenal fatigue. I start getting healthy and start pushing myself and crash again. I have 2 children and make it work even if I have to get up at 4:30 a.m. to work out 2 to 3 and a half hours a day. I am so strong and my endurance is crazy but I look like a size 8 lazy person in the belly and hips. It is so frustrating it makes me eat cleaner and work out more. Then it happens again, I crash. Weight goes up and depression lays in, I stare at my mid section all day in frustration. HOW CAN I be a trainer and look like this? I need to learn balance and it is hard to think it is better to rest and be moderate. It is hard to grasp but my over training is as bad for me as not training at all! Learning balance is the key but so hard to do:-( Keep talking and educating people, it is so real and more common than many people realize.

Great piece. Just one comment: Tim Ferris' weight training advice (cf. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/timothyf.htm) is just as nonsensical as Ronnie's 80-hour work week fairy tale. Ferris is totally full of shit. He's part of the problem, not the solution.

[...] By June 1, 2011 I want to be sleeping soundly through the night and getting a consistent 9-11 hours of sleep EVERY night – Yeah, you read that right. To those who have given me shit about this in the past – and our messed up and deluded society in general – THIS IS HEALTHY people. Just because you and everyone else lives on caffeine and sleeps 4 hours a night doesn’t mean it’s even REMOTELY healthy. And, besides, I did the same thing for a LONG time and am living with the end result now. I’ll NEVER do it again. I actually ranted about this in my post “Fitness, Healthy, Money and LIES.” [...]

I was in tears reading a running mag just yesterday because every article made feel like a such an incredible slacker. I am 38 years old, I know better...damn those media monsters!
